...NOW PLAYING - LAMB OF GOD - BLACK LABEL...
Monday, July 31, 2006

Busy, tired, writer's block, excuses, excuses, excuses, I can rattle on and on why it's been some time since I last blogged. A lot had taken place in the past week, so sit and be in for a ride as I am gonna ramble about some of the highlights!!!

Working at Infineon has been smooth sailing, but not without its moments of stress, uncertainties and that occasional period of boredom. Thank God for His revelation of how important He is in our workplace as well as His favour is of paramount importance. Still adapting and I hope to start on one of my major projects this week!

While chatting with my fellow brother in Christ, Qi'En during a tea break, we discovered our common love for heavy metal! He said that he was very deep into it (esp. death and black metal), but has toned down a lot since being a believer. We both agreed there is nothing wrong about it as we don't listen to satanic bands, and not let music consume our very lives. Wow... And we discussed about music for an hour!! As we shared our knowledge of Christian and un-satanic bands which we are fans of, the genres we really dig, all of which may sound Greek to the unintiated...

Managed to come up with cell's Grow only on Thursday night, as I was doing it for another leader who could not make it for cell. Not only was it a last minute thingy, but I had to make an old message refreshing and relevant. Not even with a million brain cells can I conjure up anything, but in the end my prayer ended the panic. Thank God for the wisdom to create something out of nothing! With the favour of God, the cell session was a success in my opinion. Albeit it was a humbling experience..

Managed to churn out my 5 Takes audition video and blog for submission after some nervy rehearsals, tedious drafts and even frantic prayer! Keepin' my fingers crossed now...

Realised that the NEL breakdown happended on the 1st day of the 7th month hungry ghosts festival! Coincidence or something else?? Stay tune for an interesting conversation tool I thought of!

Tired of words? Time to get some audio and visual huh? Now, I shall pass the baton to VJ Titanium as he shares a screamer from one of Qi'En and my favourite Christian bands right now!

May not be everyone's cuppa, but solid musicianship!
As I Lay Dying - The Darkest Nights

Sometimes, when you are really desperate to find that something that you really really need, you can never seem to find or get it! For instance, that pen, that book, that piece of note, what you want to say, that taxi when you need to go somewhere, and the list goes on. Well, for me, it is my wit right now. If you are reading this right now, please come back asap.

Still, VJ Titanium is in the mood for sharing two interesting vids tonight! Appreciate, at least make my day okay? haha

Haha... For the faithful netizens who accompanied me on my blogosphere trek, some of you might remember an entry entitled "Bad Hair Day". Thank God, things have improved!! After a sumptuous breakfast followed by a short nap again(hello, I woke up at 7am to have breakfast with my parents), I went to my good old barbershop down at Parkway Parade. This time, equipped with "special instructions" from my mum, things neither gone bad nor wild. Phew!

Tip(s) of the day for people who pay attention to their crowning glory: Do make an effort to spell out specifically what you want (having a photo does help a lot as well) - even if he/she is an uncle/auntie, or someone you really trust. Also keep watch out what he/she is cutting! and it is never too late or feel paiseh to remind or confirm what he/she is doing. I hope every visit to the barber will be like today.

IA has been filled with random patches of boredom, as well as exciting bits of action at Infineon. In fact, it is far easier to be busy than to act busy. Some careful observations also provided interesting insights of working life. E.g. Every single member of the organization plays a part, whether we notice or not - which is also relevant to church I guess. Btw, I also received a timely paycheck from them! Thank God once again...

Also, like a bolt from the blue, I recieved an email from 5 Takes. For the uninitiated, it is a travel program (Starhub Ch16 Discovery Travel & Living) hosted by 5 young and energetic TJs (travel jockeys!) where they get to travel through 12 cities, but only get $50 per day to cover their expenses for exploration. And they are searching for new TJs for a new season(it's still on!), and I got through the 1st rd(out of 3) of the casting call thru' a basic write-up of myself. Now, they ask all hopefuls to prepare a video log(vlog) and a weblog(blog) sample before they decide to choose the desired partcipants for a final interview. Ideas anyone?! Cos deadline is in a week's time, HELP!!!

Enjoyed both L-cell and cell this week! (Not just the gel okay)
Muse's Black Holes and Relevations CD is bursting my mini Hi-Fi!
Pauline's constant rants are bursting my eardrums!
My constant "counselling" are bursting her blood veins!!
Need to do administrative NTU stuff for IA. Sianz...
Need to be prudent with IA allowance!!!

Enough afterthoughts ya? Now VJ Titanium will be dishing out some Christian metal tracks starting this weekend. Although their style may not be very Christian, but they do not conform to the ways of other rock bands like drinking, swearing and sleeping around - absolutely respected!! These are songs that I personally dig and not everyone may like them. So there won't be hard feelings ya? A slight intro will accompany the vids so you will be prepared and not waste your time downloading/viewing something you don't like. Appreciate by choice...

Screamo but catchy, for the adventurous
Underoath - Reinventing Your Exit

Metalcore, not for the faint-hearted
As I Lay Dying - Through Struggle

Interesting to ponder on the 3 things that I would look for in a partner (I not greedy one):
1. Anything
2. Something
3. Nothing

Lame at first sight? Read again:
1. Anything that I hope for or desire in a partner
2. Something unique that I did not even expect
3. Nothing that I cannot tolerate

Great hair day...

Thank God for the peace and wisdom as I approached midweek in a flash. Things at work have been smooth sailing and I have made progress in learning some of the stuff needed, although there's still a lot more! :s

Life is good as an intern due the favour and mercy of the Almighty! In addition, I managed to go for a shopping trip after work and get some bargains before the Great Singapore Sale ends.. Haha

VJ Titanium brings a double header from an awesome American(Yeah! 1st one from the USA on my blog) gothic metalcore band. Dark, aggressive yet melodic and sickeningly catchy... First song is the one that bought me and the second one is their latest work.

Atreyu - Right Side of Bed

Atreyu - Ex's and Oh's

My weekend can be aptly described by the title of my entry. It whizzed past me before I could even say "What the you know what!?" - no joke, that's like in the space of FIVE syllables okay. Although I managed to spend both my Saturday and Sunday fruitfully[although Pauline might beg to differ, because she felt my conversation were too hard to digest and I decided to LEAVE HER ALONE(when she wants la, not abandonment hor)], I still have not done the things I usually have the luxury to, namely, reading my favourite magazines, books, listening to my music, blog more, sleep more and the list goes on.

Nevertheless, I begin to once again cherish my weekends; I did when I was in NS but less so since studying. At least, I am getting an appetiser of what working life will be like, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, (believing I am charismatic or inspirational enough to keep netizens like you to continue reading, yeah you, don't think that I am not talking about you!) Haha, pure self indulgence!! Back to my story, workload is coming in but at a manageable pace and I truly enjoy being an intern so far... If I continue on, you might as well get a life, because nothing really interests you, really!!! Let's save some time and go ahead with what you like to do ya?

VJ Titanium brings about a few rockin' vids dedicated from yours truly:

Update of my 1st work week: Woooaahhh... What a ride!! My IA turned out to be more than what I expected. Although I know that it will hardly be purely academic, neither did I expect the barage of information to be digested, tasks to do and expectations to meet. My first two days were as slow & boring as watching paint dry, and I even had to battle the dreaded yet unmistakable Zzz Monster. However, I was subsequently briefed on the projects(accountable to NTU side also) that I am assigned to during this stint. Basically, I have a couple of major ones and a few small scale ones. There begins my hectic last 3 days, as I did work at the ground level - production line familiarization, middle level - spent my 80% of my time at the incoming quality analysis lab doing inspection, and upper level - doing some admin checks and reviews. Time it seems, also flies by real fast when you are working. It has been an enriching learning experience as I am struck by the hammer of reality repeatedly - in discovering facts of working life as an engineer I guess. Also, I thank God that my supervisor is not, from my perspective, a nasty guy. He treated me well without being too demanding or unreasonable. Yet, his easy-going attitude does not equate him to being lazy or irresponsible. To top it off, I am blessed enough to be entitled 4 days of paid leave during my six months here!!! Thank you Jesus for Infineon's welfare.

Nevertheless, for those who missed our dear DJ Titanium, he is no longer working at the helm of my blog. (Stunned silence, dropping of hearts, inevitable sobs)
Hey, that's only half the story, as he is promoted to a VJ(Special thanks to youtube.com and XYZ's blog for inspiration)!! Cut the congrats and start the metallic balls swinging, will ya?
VJ Titanium:Raising the curtains for this all new segment is one of my favourite old skool metal bands, Bullet For My Valentine! They hail from Wales and their frontman is about my age and yet he is a famous heartthrob already. Heavily influenced by Pantera, Iron Maiden and Megadeth. Enjoy...

Duh! If you are so dense in your cranium, let me give you a literary update. I was already briefed by my pleasant supervisor on my upcoming projects for the six-month stint and found out I needed both technical know-how and hands-on experience! Gotta go learn some programming and operation of certain machinery. Then I need to work on plans that will improve various aspects of the department's work. Can't reveal much and hope that my pictures will not have any legal implications! Time and energy are a premium, and I already spent my whole day doing inspection in a lab.

What a day! Woke up at five-plus to witness Italy hoist the World Cup after demonstrating a soccer masterclass on "5 ways to take penalties". Felt sorry for Zizou as I felt he just became a media scapegoat. C'mon, the French team was to blame as a whole. Italy's triumph, on the other hand, was the culmination of everyone's effort.

Anyway, I went back to bed and opened my eyes again when my alarm clock struck seven. Had a hearty breakfast and embarked on my trek to Infineon in the balmy weather - windy but wet. It took me 25 minutes to reach my place of work. Turns out I reported to the wrong building!!! It wasn't the instantly recognisable "white ship", but it was the old building just around its corner. Despite that bummer, I was surprised to meet my NS PTI and friend from EEE, Reza at the wrong place and we made our way together to the right one - where Infineon had its humble beginnings.

Furthermore, I was joined by two other students on IA as well, Qi'En and Jeffrey. Qi'En is in fact from my faculty but we belonged to different lecture groups, yet he managed to check me out beforehand and I was taken aback when he called me Raymond - no further intro needed. Jeffrey is from CE and quite friendly. I shall refrain from boring readers from the boring details of formalities I got through today. In short, we were separated as soon as we went thru' meeting the HR manager for briefing. I am assigned to the Quality Management side, doing vendor management and quality control department. Am I boring you? Do I sound like I care? I just wanna rant!!! Haha... Just a moment of faked insanity, hope it doesn't become real. All in all, I went on tour about the various important places, did some hands on teating in clean room wearing surgeon-like lab coat+shoes+shower cap-like cap, and I get a personal computer!! Internet-less computer!! Argghh... All is not lost, at least I got home at 545pm. Why? Free shuttle bus!!! No more sweaty walks to work!!! Hooray!!!
Okay, okay!!! Have break, have a Dee-jay! Here's metal wrapped in flesh, Mr. Titanium!!

Thank God I took the initiative today to do a practical rundown of my trip to work for my upcoming IA. It turned out to be a good lesson and an early morning adventure for me! Woke up early at about 7am and was in my jogging attire as I was prepared to jog back from my place of work. For your info, my IA company Infineon, is that weird looking building (some say look like a sail ship, while some say look like paper-made one) along the PIE opposite Kallang Basin swimming complex. And due to the construction of the new highways, I am able to see that building from my block's traffic light junction!

It is, however, so near yet so far! There is no direct bus service from my home to Kallang Way area, that is why I tried to soak into the peak hour and gauge my travelling time. All was well at first - left the house at 0735hrs, waited for my bus for 5 min, took another 5 min to reach the stop where I am suppose to change the service. Then comes the nightmare in broad daylight! Waited 15 min for bus no.125, the only service that routes Kallang Way, and when it came, it was like a large tin of sardines, err, I mean people. Vroom... it swerved past me as if I was invisible (now I know how ghosts feel, haha). My patience has the longevity of a matchstick, and I decided to start my run earlier than scheduled as the building was only three bus stops away.

Along the way, I realised there was also a large number of people commuting to the various nooks and crannies in the Kallang Way area by foot!! Therefore, I could only draw the conclusion that taking a bus is quite impractical for many, including me. Within a nifty 6 min, I reached the foot of Helm's Deep, oops, I mean my work place. But I must confess it looked very unique inside as well, two blocks connected by seemingly mazy bridges and the driveway looked every bit medieval (LOTR-styled). After a mere few steps of looking around for the reception area where I was instructed to be at on Monday, a stranger called out to me - it was the security guard. I explained to him that I was going to start work on Monday and jogged here to check out the place. Astute as security guards often fail to be, he ask me not to jog here until I am officially an employee - for freakin' "security reasons". Or he might have nightmares about singlet-wearing suicide bombers, I reckoned.

From then on, my journey on foot continues. To be honest, it was a surprise as my jog home took roughly 10 min and voila! It was a good first hand estimate and I set my heart on travelling on foot. Both healthy and economical!! God has answered my prayers not to go out of shape during my IA!! Now, Jesus, please continue to shower me your blessings at Infineon and protect me always... Amen!

Oh, almost slipped off my mind. I got a B for my intersem module results, CS226-Desktop Publishing. Rock on!!! Furthermore, I have attained my Communication Studies minor!!! Rock on!!! (Going mental in front of computer) Praise and glory belongs to God!! I must say that this minor is something that I thoroughly (95% actually) enjoyed and savoured (nearly) every moment mugging readings/toiling/churning out projects for 15 AUs. Thank you Jesus, for realisng part of my dream to do CS stuff. (Esp. this module doing the Intune magazine for Nanyang Chronicle!)

Yesterday marked the 9th death anniversary of my maternal grandmother. Flashback: It happened when I was in secondary two. I could not fathom the gravity of death, nor could I understand the wave of grief sweeping through the family. I was a person with a heart of stone (i suppose), never liked sentimental songs, always thinking (or scheming) and not feeling for stuff. In fact, I had quite a close relationship with my Ah Ma (although it paled in comparision with my siblings), but I hardly shed a tear throughout the proceedings.
Now: As I am typing this, I still remember her countenance, her voice, her gaunt, hunchback frame; her farewell touch/hug and kiss that accompanied every visit to her place. Thank God, He made me a person with at least some feelings, reviving a heart of flesh, emotions indeed welled up once again. I am not going philosophical or spiritual or speaking from a regretful perspective(I am actually glad I been through that emotional drought early), thus I wish that people nowadays - with all the hustle & bustle of life, should constantly make an effort to appreciate the people around them. Time and tide wait for no man.

A dedication from me to her

Thank you for being my grandma,
I could not ask for a better one.
Although the years fly by so fast,
In our memory you will always last.

Thank you for raising up my mum,
despite the harsh environment of the yester-years.
For all that she is today,
amount of gratitude we can never pay.

Thank you for whipping up fantastic dishes
despite the fatigue and toil of the day.
You still manage to give us your smile,
and never fail to go that extra mile.

Thank you for your love and care,
despite our immature and insensitive acts.
No words could express how great you are,
rest in peace, my dearest Ah Ma!

Wow, caught the revival round of Channel U's superband yesterday and it was honestly one of the best episodes I saw (FYI, I catch nearly every week's show). It featured the 5 previous groups that were knocked out, and with the inaugural prize of being in the semifinals at stake, every single group upped their performance by tenfold. Even Summer Breeze put up a valiant but nonetheless impressive swansong to the competition. In the end, it was a neck to neck race but Mi Lu Bing edged out JuzB to claim the last berth in the next round. Phew! This only attest to what is to come in the latter stages of the competition, so fasten your seat belts and get ready for the ride of your life! The Singapore music scene has hope!

How does a leader preach the cons of consuming alcohol when his/her normal menu consists of:

Kopi Tiam Uncle: Haha, Xiao Di, my bookies dun wear red one. See that botak there, he is my master bookie, he might wear red underwear though.
Me: Sorry, but I want a Red Bull please.
Kopi Tiam Uncle: Huh, where got? Now undercover police wear red arh? Better tip off my bookies now!
Me: No uncle, not red police, I just want red bull please!
Kopi Tiam Uncle: Huh? You want to raid the bookies? Hey, my men here can just take u down as easy as ABC okay.
Me: No. No uncle, don't get me wrong, I am desperate! I wanna Red Bull PLEASE!!
Kopi Tiam Uncle: Wah Lau!! You rape police one?? I dun think I want u as a customer. Go away you pervert! Or else I call that botak to rape you!

Yipee!! Gotta thank Pauline for keeping her promise and delivering my "rewards". (Evil grinz) In fact, it should be a wager as she sounded like she called for it more than 2 months ago during my exams. She said that if I get an A for MS****, she will get me 2 CDs!! What a shame! I got an A- but I still had the audacity to claim my prize. Easy-going as she often is, she relented. Although I purposefully told her several new releases - lostprophets for e.g., she had second thoughts about getting CDs for me after learning about my CD binge. To my surprise, she got me not one but three story books - which explains the reason I five-letter word at the start of this entry. Btw, it's actually for the price for two - Thank God for Borders...haha

Reading funnily used to be the last thing that would appear in my hobbies list. I absolutely dislike reading as I found it a bore during my school days. In primary school, I borrow books from the library so as to fake that I read. It was a ploy to claim some kind of award -I couldn't register the title but it's somewhat like a reader's pin that you can redeem after completed a number of book reviews(which I lifted wholesale from the synopsis or just purely making one up) and then go on further to redeem a badge. Pauline, do help if you remember since you're a librarian. In secondary school, the reading period is always exciting as I have to dodge the teacher so as to memorise my chinese dictation or prepare for some test. It was only until during my NS days that I discovered the joys and wonders of reading. Reading has turned from being my poison to my meat. I dig thrillers, thought-provoking novels and even the occassional "chick-lit" or some book-prize work. It was a window to opening my shallow mind and inevitably helping me in my command of the English language. I then realized the fun in word-play and analogies thingy, so helpful is reading that it facilitates my TAWG - intepreting mainly.

Had a nice brunch today at Wisma Atria's Food Republic with my mum. We ate at ToastBox, which serves a mean array of "Ya Kun"-ish toast bread with a pleasant twist. (I recommend the thick toast with peanut butter, haha, hence the title of today's entry) Simply divine. Slurrrp... We spent some time together there sipping their aromatic coffee and my mum had a heart-to-heart talk with me, sharing what is she felt - both happy and troubling stuff. It was a good time of fellowship and I truly cherish such moments as they come few and far between for many people I think.

Disclaimer: I did not skip church on purpose the previous weekend as I truly attended my secondary school class gathering. Here's the proof:

Here's DJ Titanium with today's spin to kick start the week!
Soundtrack of my life today: "Half Light" by Athlete a moody yet romantic rockin' love song...

Thoughts flushing into my mind like a toilet bowl, not in a draining kinda way though...

Like every Korean soap drama series, England played exactly to a director's script, leaving millions of English fans (and many Singporeans too!) a heavy heart, tears of disappointment and the inevitably poignant bitter aftertaste. Lack of creativity, discipline, drive/passion, penalty-taking techniques and an impersonal manager all culminated to England's downfall. They were, in fact an embarassment to watch I must admit.
But my heart goes out to the Owen who played his guts out, Hargreaves that is. Coincidentally, he is both my and FIFA's Man of the Match with his spirited performance. Psst, Arsene, do consider him in your summer shopping list will ya?

Unfortunately, Brazil met with a similar fate as they succumbed to a deafeat by the ageing yet gallant Gallics! The 1-0 scoreline, however, did undermine Brazil's below-par performance in which they were outwitted, outplayed and outlasted by the resurgent Zidane and co. On hindsight, what impressed me was their ability to accept defeat graciously unlike their ahem, fellow south american counterparts. Ha, as Brazil relinquishes their crown, I do anticipate with bated breath who the new champions of the world will be. My mind tells me it's gonna be Germany, but my heart prompts me to say France. It's only less than 240 hours to find out!

DJ Titanium is once again on air to dish out some sound bites!
Soundtrack of my life yesterday night:"I Let Go" by Eighteen Visions
Soundtrack of my life today:"Her Portrait in Black" by Atreyu
